dawn breaks
the dew sparkles as it catches the sun’s rays
the air is crisp
fresh
I breathe in
hold
breathe out
I didn’t even realize I had closed my eyes
but they’re open now
this morning brings tenderness
yet refreshment
a clean start
I feel the love of the Creator as a tingle
in my fingertips
how could I forget that love’s faithfulness?
my fingers itch to remember this
this renewal
my eyes turn to the tulips
opening in this new light
I pick them by their stems
bring them inside
and preserve them in a vase
a marker of remembrance on my kitchen table
that new mercies bloom in morning light
